Chennai police have rejected singer Chinmayi Sripada’s request for permission to hold a peaceful protest in the city against the way the Supreme Court’s Internal Complaints Committee dealt with and gave a clean chit to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi in the sexual harassment case. In a reply to the singer, Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan stated that any protest in this matter will amount to judicial contempt.
The singer did apply twice and has named Valluvar Kottam as the place for the silent protest but the court has rejected the order stating that any protests on this matter will create law and order issues.
Chinmayi posted a series of tweets about the case.
I did apply for permission twice. Both times Chennai Police doesn’t want to give permission to protest.
Simply because it involves the CJI 🙂

Dear Women,
Do make sure you don’t get sexually harassed by any powerful man in the country. They wont follow due process and they’ll further victimize you. Oh BTW please wear a Dupatta else society here will make memes on how you asked for it.— Chinmayi Sripaada (@Chinmayi) May 10, 2019
