Priyanka Chopra, who recently got married to her beau, American singer Nick Jonas, was found in the middle of a controversy when an article by New York Times’ The Cut alleged that she’s a “global scam artist” who only married Nick for the money. The vile article was demeaning, to say the least, bordering on racist and classist where the author implies that the whole marriage is a sham and that Nick is the victim of something he didn’t ask for.
The article titled “Is Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s Love for Real?,” authored by writer and comedian Mariah Smith is all about how Priyanka is using Nick for her own gain. The article, predictably, got slammed by many including Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor and actor Arjun Kapoor to name a few.
For a publication that “shows women’s what they are made of” @TheCut has a lot to answer for . The article on @priyankachopra was sexist , racist and disgusting. Also it’s written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness. @mRiah shame on you! https://t.co/bmbbX7LrAT

Ever since the article got published, the author and the magazine got slammed forcing them to take it down and issue an apology. They wrote:
“Last night, the Cut published a post about Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s relationship that shouldn’t have gone up. We’ve received dozens of messages from readers expressing their anger. We want you to know that we hear you and we’re sorry. The whole piece missed the mark. There is no good explanation for this other than human error and poor judgement. This was a mistake, and we apologize to our readers and to Priyanka and Nick.”
