Maari 2 Review | Mass action entertainer | works well

Maari was neither a hit nor a flop. So, when the actor announced the sequel with the director, it was a surprise. We have to accept that the sequel works out big time.

Maari 2 starts exactly where the first part ends but with a timeline difference of ten years with a lot of additional characters who keeps the movie lively. Filled with comedy, the first half works well while the second half has twists getting into the ‘mass mode’.

Tovino Thomas as the baddie looks threatening in the first half but falls into the same old villain template who gets beaten up by the hero. The punch dialogues like If you’re bad, I’m your dad surprisingly works out well.

Sequels are not easy and in Tamil cinema, not many sequels were convincing but Maari 2 as a sequel is better than the first part. The director’s hard work is seen. Once Yuvan Shankar Raja proves why he is the king of BGMs.

Probably for the first time someone has outplayed Dhanush in dancing. Sai Pallavi pulls off ‘Rowdy Baby’ with ease. She has done her part very well. The entire cast and crew have delivered us a neat commercial movie.

On the whole, Maari 2 will work well for the targetted audience.
