Storyline: A hostel warden who sets things right there is forced to take on the powerful politician and his son due to his past.
Review: No matter how many movies ‘Rajinikanth-the actor’ does, movies like Baasha always holds a special place in the hearts of Superstar’s fans. We always loved the entertainer more than an actor. The mass, style, punch dialogues give us goosebumps. Though Rajini the actor had various hits in recent times, the superstar we all loved was missing.
Karthik Subbaraj, a fellow superstar fan probably felt the same, and he decided to take a back step and do a movie which looks more like a tribute to the superstar, something he would want to see on screens.
The movie looks like as if it’s the sequel of Baasha with twists here and there. Kaali (Rajinikanth) works as the hostel warden, solves problems here and there in his own way, puts the Rowdy gang headed by Bobby Simha in their place. The young couple played by Megha Akash and Sananth looks up to him. He romances Simran, the girl’s mother. A few scenes later, he is forced to take on a powerful politician (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) from Uttar Pradesh and his son (Vijay Sethupathi). Here’s where Karthik Subbaraj, the director takes a back step and the fan in him comes out. He paints the right picture of what the superstar’s fan wants and is definitely a treat to all of us.
The movie is out and out Superstar movie and that overshadows some minor struggle the movie faces, for example, it takes time to get you involved. Though the songs are excellent, doesn’t add any particular weight to the movie. Of course, the villain characters could’ve written better. C’mon, Nawazuddin is an outstanding actor but he is no Mark Antony. Also, Vijay Sethupathi is in here to provide the Karthik Subbaraj’s mandatory twist. We do miss Raghuvaran badly, don’t we?
On the whole, Petta is completely a superstar movie with some major twists that adds freshness to the script and makes us all enjoy the man we missed all these years. Go, watch and get Rajinified!
