Thala Ajith pens down letter about joining Politics

In a statement to the press on Monday, actor Ajith Kumar said he has “no interest to enter politics.” He requested his fans “not to associate him with politics in any way.” This comes after reports claiming that some of his fans had joined the Bharatiya Janta Party post Viswasam release.

ere is the transcription of his press statement in Tamil:

“People are aware of the fact that I am very particular that no trace of politics should shadow my personal life or my movies. Cinema is my profession and I am clear about it. Several years ago, I disbanded my fan clubs mainly for this reason. I decided to do this because I do not want my fans, fan clubs or myself to get entangled in politics in any way.

Even after I have informed this decision to the public, there have been many reports of my fans and my name being used in certain political scenarios. Especially, at a time when elections are around the corner, it gives the impression that I’m inclined towards politics.

At this point, I would like to reiterate the fact that I would not like to involve myself in politics intentionally or unintentionally. My only association to politics is when I stand in the queue to cast my vote as a common man. I have never, nor will I ever influence my fans to cast their vote or support a political party. I did not come to the film industry to venture into politics nor to compete with anyone in any capacity. I’d like to insist the same to my fans. I do not express anything political in public. I’d like to be the same to my fans as well. I do not support those who criticise other actors and critics in a derogatory manner on social media. Because the world does not forgive such acts.

I have my personal views on politics. But, they are my own. Likewise, I do not entertain other people forcing their political opinions on me. I expect the same from my fans as well. Let your political opinion be yours. I will not entertain my name or my image being projected in any political event.

My sincere request to my fans is for students to concentrate on their studies, for working people to fulfil their responsibilities, to respect law and order, to focus on health, to live in harmony and to show respect to humankind unconditionally. This would be the biggest respect and appreciation my fans can show me. Live and let live.”

On the work front, Ajith has teamed up with director H Vinoth of Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru fame for his next flick. This untitled film is the Tamil remake of Hindi blockbuster film Pink, produced by late Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor.
