India’s 1st All-Women Political Party Set to Contest Lok Sabha Elections

National’s Women Party – Founded by Dr Shwetha Shetty will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha Election, 2019. Before this many asked Shwetha about why she didn’t join any party? And this is how she answered those questions.
In 2012, Dr Shwetha Shetty registered the party and in 2018, she launched her party, ‘National Women Party’ in Delhi. The party was recently launched in Mumbai also. Dr Shwetha Shetty will be focusing on improving the lives of women in India. Well, this party is the first to have All Women members.

She spoke to News 18, “It’s not segregation, it’s a safety net. The key areas where women lag is in education and then employment. Policy makers don’t think of women and girls while making policies because not enough women are policymakers. Every woman’s experience is different. If we have more diverse women lawmakers, women’s problems would be better represented in Parliament.”

In a report, it is mentioned that the party currently has 5 lakh members. Also, they will be contesting election for 50 seats in Madhya Pradesh.
She also said that women reservation bill grants women 33 per cent seats in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, but has been pending since the year 1996. But yet, there are only 11 per cent women in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

She added, “Every party has women’s wings. But these entities are just to create publicity that looks, we are a woman-friendly party. That is just not enough.”
This election will be special it seems! Well, All the best Ma’am.
