Director Shankar has produced some of the greatest works in the Indian film industry but the director never worked with the Maestro Ilaiyaraja.
For the first time, the director revealed the answer:
“I wanted to work with Raja sir in Gentleman and even got his appointment. But somewhere, I felt reluctant to approach him and had no clue on how to get music from him. To be precise, I was scared to work with him”, said Shankar who actually roped in Rahman for Gentleman and continued to work with him in several films. “I didn’t work with Raja sir because of the respect and fear I had on him”, said Shankar who later worked with the composer for an awareness ad film featuring Kamal Haasan in the lead. “I asked Raja, sir, to add guitar for a scene in that particular advertisement, he simply obliged and added chorus as per my request. Raja sir’s music will come with me throughout my life”, said Shankar.
On the work front, Director Shankar is working on the sequel of Indian with Kamal Haasan and Kajal Agarwal as the lead.
