#MeToo: Chinmayi tweets about Vairamuthu to officials; Union Minister promises action

Singer Chinmayi who is the prime force in the #MeToo movement especially in South India, not only spoke about Vairamuthu’s behaviour towards her, She also made a lot of people open up.

As the aftermath of standing for herself, the singer, unfortunately, was removed from the dubbing union.

Now, after four months since the issue, Chinmayi wrote to Union Minister “Maam, it’s been 4 months since I named Mr Vairamuthu as my predator. I have since then been banned from work in the Tamil film Industry (Dubbing Union). The law as of today doesn’t allow me to file a case. Please give me a solution,” playback singer Chinmayi today. She tagged the Prime Minister’s Office as well in the tweet.

“Many of my colleagues who have named Vairamuthu are afraid of coming out in the open because speaking up has cost me my basic income in the past 4 months. Please tell me what I should do, what more I should do. Due process has failed me. Please help this Beti. And others,” Chinmayi further urged the Union Minister. ‘Beti’ in the tweet is an allusion to ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme of the NDA government.

Much to Chinmayi’s relief, Maneka Gandhi has promised action. Replying to Chinmayi, she said, “I have taken up your case with the National Commission for Women.
