Parents arrested after trying to poison their own daughter who said no to marriage

Police arrest the parents of a 16-year-old girl who tried to poison the girl after she refused to a marriage proposal.

The parents wanted her daughter who is studying school at the Dharmapuri district to get married as the family had three more sisters and they have started making arrangements for the same. The girl said no to the marriage as she wanted to concentrate on studies.

However, the parents have been threatening her that she has to accept the proposal and get married. They had even beaten her on this issue. But since she wouldn’t budge, they mixed poison in the food she carried as lunch to the school.

The girl’s younger sister warned her on the way to school that “our parents have mixed some poison in your food so don’t eat it”.

Shocked at this, she went straight to the Magendramangalam police station carrying the contaminated food and explained her predicament and filed a complaint.

Following this, an enquiry was carried on by enquiries by the Child Welfare Organisation and the police and it was confirmed that poison was mixed in the food. Later, the police arrested the girl’s father and mother.

Further, steps are being taken to leave the victim girl in the care of the Child Welfare team and steps are taken to secure the lives of her three younger sisters as well.
