The Greater Chennai Corporation on Thursday destroyed the Chennai’s famous OMR Food Street at Thoraipakkam.
Corporation zonal officer T Sugumar said the civic body had demolished the place based on the court order.
He said: We demolished 26 shops. The court has ordered us to demolish as they do not have any permits and asked us to submit a report.
The OMR food street was set up in 2014 and is one of the major tourist attraction.
Looks like the problem was with traffic and the parking at Thoraipakkam. The shop owners are keen to rectify the issue soon.
